The Beauty Files: All About that Base

Beauty confession… I have high maintenance skin. I’ve always battled extremely sensitive skin that is acne prone (super fun), so I’ve spent years trying new products, face washes and consulting with dermatologists to figure out the most effective way to keep my skin in check. So today’s post is all about those base products and concealers that keep my face fresh and ready to face the world.

1. Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer
This is a new find for me and I honestly don’t know how I ever lived without it. This tinted moisturizer is a creamy and light consistency with surprisingly excellent coverage and includes SPF 30. The formula is oil-free, so my face isn’t glistening by 10am and it doesn’t clog pores. When I start with this product in the morning my skin magically appears naturally even and smooth. I typically just apply with my fingertips, but occasionally use a beauty blender. I’m obsessed.

2. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream Eyes
I stumbled upon this under-eye concealer about 6 months ago when I was doing some experimenting at the beauty counter and I haven’t switched since. The creamy texture goes on super smooth, doesn’t settle into skin or leave any lines. I apply it in an upside down triangle shape under my eyes which brightens up my entire under eye area.

3. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer
I use just a tiny dab of this in the most inner corners of my eyes to ensure there isn’t any potential remnant of a dark circle. It provides full coverage without looking cakey.

4. Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder
This transparent, weightless powder is the final touch for under my eyes. I use just a tiny bit of powder to set in my concealer and it also brightens and lightens my under eye area.

5. Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Power
This is the finishing touch. I brush just a little bit of this translucent powder over my entire face which sets foundation for the day and slightly mattifies my skin. I have oily prone skin, but this powder really helps control oil or glistening for the entire day.

  1. Hi Jaclyn….Have you ever tried Rodan + Fields Soothe regimen for your sensitive skin? It is amazing!

  2. I need to try all of these. Sleeping 3 hours a night with a new baby = need for under eye concealer.

  3. Lovely products. I’d like to try the Makeup Forever line.
