Two Ways to Style a Classic Fall Sweater

Madewell Monsieur Coat (I’m wearing a xs. Similar version from J.Crew that’s on sale!) // J.Crew Everyday Cashmere Sweater (Halogen has a similar sweater for under $50!) // Simple & Dainty layered necklaces // J.Crew wide-leg high-rise pant (run a smidge small, I sized up to a 6)// Everlane Day Market Tote (super similar faux leather tote for under $50!) // Puma Clyde Sneakers

Hello, Monday!  Lots happening over here, guys.  First, thank you SO MUCH for your sweet comments and messages on my moving post.  I really appreciate your positivity, encouragement and even those who said it was the inspiration you needed to get through a tough situation.  Thank you, thank you.  Big life changes can sometimes feel isolating and I appreciate your kind words.

Second, big shout out and thanks to those who took my reader survey!  It’s so helpful to know what you currently enjoy reading and the content you’re looking for.  With that in mind, I intend to bring you more ‘multiple ways to style’ posts, starting today!  Since my style tends to revolve around classic basics, I’m sharing two ways I’ve recently worn my favorite J.Crew cashmere sweater.

This sweater is a simple closet staple that’s great quality (sooo soft) for the price-point.  It’s similar to the Tippi sweater (another favorite) just a heavier weight and longer sleeves.  I’m wearing a size small and it hits right at the waist, but has a tiny split hem at the sides.  I’m sporting it in ‘old forest’ since green is definitely my color to make my eyes pop, but it comes in 20 colors!  2-0 different colors.  I also love the lavender, aka ‘smokey wisteria’.  (These names crack me up).

I’ve talked about these wide-leg pants a few times now (last seen in this post with heels) and it’s for good reason.  They go with anything, like these causal sneaks.  I work in a more creative office, so this look of dressier pants paired with casual shoes is totally acceptable.  BUT, this would also work wonderfully with ankle booties to make the look a bit dressier.

Finally, I snagged this coat last year from Madewell during Black Friday sales and I’m so glad they brought it back.  It runs large, so I sized down to a xs, but it’s still roomy enough to layer underneath and not feel like a stuffed sausage.

Madewell Washed Leather Moto Jacket (faux leather alternative option for $88!) // J.Crew Everyday Cashmere Sweater // Madewell Button High Waist Ankle Jeans (similar version from Abercrombie for $78!) // Treasure & Bond Studded Mules (currently 40% off! woot woot! Also, flat version here) // Blair Ritchey Bag

OK, second outfit option.  Whenever I want to feel like an official ‘cool girl’ for a night out I always throw on this leather jacket.  I totally understand the price point high and honestly, I bought it when I had a gift card, but it feels like BUTTER.  So good and I’ll have it in my wardrobe forever. (FYI, I’m wearing a small).  HOWEVER, there is a faux leather version from Nordstrom that is solid as well.

Doing a little front tuck of this sweater into high-waist jeans (wearing a size 27 in these jeans) highlights the waist a bit more without feeling bulky.  And I purchased these black studded mules during the #NSale, but I’m happy to report they are currently 40% off!  They run true to size (I’m a size 9 and my heel isn’t sliding off the end or anything) and have a flat mule version as well.

Which look would you wear?  I hope this was helpful as I work to bring more styling versatility into my future posts!

  1. I’d def go with the second look (that JACKET!) since I can’t get into wide-leg crops but both outfits look great on you. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the J. Crew sweater will be included in their Black Friday sale because it looks absolutely perfect. If not, I’ll get it anyway. ☺️

  2. Great look! Love the colors and simplicity of the outfit!
