3 Tips for Starting Your Day in a Good Mood

September and October are decidedly my favorite months of the year. I love the back-to-school vibes and emotions that still emerge – A feeling of starting fresh. Whether you have an early morning alarm and commute to work, early workout or kiddos waking you up, now is the time to reset and start some healthy habits. ‘Either run the day or the day runs you’ – right? Or maybe it should be ‘Either run the month or the month runs you’ with the arrival of September first. Here are three trips for starting your day in a good mood!

ONE // DON’T reach for your phone and do one productive thing right when you wake up
Ok, I am guilty of this – I use my phone as my alarm clock and I am always so so tempted to open my emails right when my eyeballs crack open. And sometimes I do and then regret it. A better habit? Quickly tackling one productive thing! For me this usually means making the bed, making coffee and maybe unloading the dishwasher. Struggle to pull the sheets back and jump out of bed? I read The 5 Second Rule a few years ago and that little trick usually works for me!

TWO // Get some fresh air
I usually leave my phone inside for a bit and take Potsie on a short morning walk to start my day with some fresh air. Getting up and moving instead of just immediately turning on the TV starts me off in a great mood.

THREE // Avoid sugar first thing and start your day with greens, fiber and fats
For me this means making a smoothie for my morning commute with spinach, frozen blueberries, ground flaxseed, almond butter and oat milk. I used to grab a quick muffin or frozen waffle, but your body digests refined carbs quickly and leaves you hungry and tired a short time after.

What are you doing to start this new month off on the right foot?

Abercrombie has 50% off everything (!!) and I’m loving this cozy boyfriend cardigan (gimmie all the fall layers) and this sherpa snap sweatshirt.

J.Crew has 40% off your purchase. I just tried on this cute blouse last week and these flattering wide-leg pants. You can also snag this classic field jacket for 40% off.

West Elm has up to 30% off with a buy more, save more event. You can snag a fiddle fig, velvet pattern pillows (love these!) and a Moroccan leather pouf (we have one and I’m obsessed)
