This past week in Chicago has been a good reminder of why, despite weeks of mulling over the decision, I decided to invest in a super warm and durable winter coat. And all my winter gear, for that matter. We’ve gone from snow storm to 8 degrees to freezing rain. And since we walk or take public transportation everywhere, I must dress accordingly. So today I’m rounding up the key pieces I’m so glad I own now that we live in the city.
ONE // Arcteryx Parka
Ok, buying this coat was a HARD pill to swallow, but it’s been a complete savior and I know I’ll have it for years and years. It makes walking around bearable and I like that it’s actually flattering and hugs in a bit at my waist.
TWO // Chelsea Winter Boots
Since I walk to the train to work, doing the commuter shoe thing is a mandatory. I can throw on this pair of boots that are incredibly warm and comfortable.
THREE // Hunter Boots
Another city-mandatory pair of boots. Rain or snow, these boots are the best to pull on and puddle jump. They are incredibly durable – I’ve had mine for 6 years and they still look brand new.
FOUR // Stocking Caps in Every Color
I’ve given up on preventing hat hair because wearing a warm beanie walking everywhere is mandatory. I have this particular one in navy, cream, green and black. One for every outfit.
FIVE // Transport Zipper Tote
This isn’t specific to the winter season, but I’ve realized that when walking or jumping on the L, I needed a work bag with a zipper. It’s not only safer, but it keeps snow or rain from hitting my laptop.
