A Wardrobe Investment

How do you decide what to spend more on versus save in your wardrobe? I posed this question on Instagram and the answers are definitely an individual one. Some of you said purses, since they seem to last longer than clothing items and boots were another investment item that came up a few times. Admittedly for me, I can think of very few items other than a great jacket, coat or amazing pair of jeans that would be worth investing in.

I also mentally categorize “investment” versus “splurge” differently in my mind, too. A splurge might be spending $100 on a cute pair of crushed velvet booties that I probably will only wear for a season or two, while an investment is a piece I could wear multiple times a month for YEARS to come.

Enter, this blazer. I tried on this blazer back in March when Zak and I were in Georgetown. I loved it. LOVED. Amazing quality, instantly slimming. But $300. Woof. I reluctantly placed it back on the rack but continued to stalk it online for the next 6 months. Finally the price dropped to $240, which is still quite a bit for a blazer, but I felt it was classic and versatile enough to invest in. And I still love it and stand by that. I can wear it with a concert t-shirt and jeans for a casual look, with a blouse and trousers for work or even over a simple grey dress for a date night out.

I’d love to know – How do you decide what to invest in for your own wardrobe?

  1. I love the cut of that blazer! SO flattering. I agree with you on investing in a good jacket or coat. I would also invest in a light to medium sweater in a sold neutral color made from the highest quality fabric.

  2. I totally agree with you on investing in a timeless, versatile piece. Love the fit of the blazer, money well spent!
