German Village vs. Italian Village

It’s been nearly three months since we made the move from Italian Village to German Village in lovely Columbus. There is definitely a different vibe (and crowd) between the two neighborhoods, but we are happy with our decision to try a new location and are fully embracing the historic charm and family feel of German Village.

Things I love and miss about Italian Village: It was definitely a younger crowd (sometimes we felt a smidge old) with many more bars to walk to. We could basically trot down to any bar in the Short North, but I especially miss Cosecha and Seventh Son. That was our go-to: Tacos and margs then a quick walk down the street to sit outside or on the rooftop of Seventh Son. I also miss walking to Laughlin’s Bakery, which still gets my vote for the cutest downtown bakery. (And Fox in the Snow, but luckily we still have one of those down the street in German Village).

Things I don’t miss: The construction and lack of parking.

Things I love about German Village: The history, charm and family feel. No idea if I will still adore the cobblestone streets in the winter with snow and ice, but for now I find them to be idyllic. I also LOVE the all the deli options. Guys, I never knew how much I needed a good deli in my life until now. Katzinger’s (the PICKLES!) and Brown Bag are the best to pick up a quick sandwich or salad. Or slice of cheesecake. And I adore walking or running around Schiller Park and watching all the dogs and their humans. It’s like a teeny tiny Central Park.

Things I don’t love: I wish there were a few more sports bars to walk to for game days. Obviously they are a short Uber away, but I miss a few of the crowded bars when OSU is playing. (NEVER thought I would have said that 2 years ago. Look at me now).

Have you ever moved into a new place and city? How did you explore and settle in?
