How To Style Fun Socks and Booties

Madewell Sweater Coat (runs large, I’m wearing an xs. Similar grey cardigan for under $40!) // Madewell Striped Tee (Wearing a small) // Madewell Black Skinny Jeans (run TTS) // Everlane Day Market Tote // Madewell Socks // Madewell Booties (Similar pair on sale for under $100!)

I was just talking in my Gift Guide post yesterday that I love to give cute socks as a holiday ‘stocking stuffer’ for both friends and family. They are fun, practical and you never have to guess on sizes! I’m a sucker for a patterned sock with my LL Bean Boots and someone recently asked me how to style them with booties.

There are a couple options for adding a little sock pattern to your outfit. The first option is shown here, over skinny jeans (or even yoga pants or leggings) and a boot. This is my preference, especially when wearing snow boots. I’ll throw on leggings tucked into thick camp socks and boots.

The other option is to wear a (slightly thinner) sock under ankle jeans with booties, so you still see a hint of the pattern. That’s definitely a cute option when wearing booties with work pants or jeans that are smidge more cropped.

Another option I’ve been eyeing is velvet socks (whattt) for the holiday season. They are sitting in my shopping cart right now, so I was going to order and see if they even work or stay up. But I imagine them to be cute for a holiday party if you’re styling booties.

What do you think? Do you like to wear fun prints and patterns, or just go the all black route?

  1. I wear socks in a neutral (because, well, I’m me) print with rolled boyfriend or skinny jeans and booties. Socks are a fun, inexpensive way to add to your wardrobe.
