5 Key Pieces to Build Your Spring Wardrobe

Banana Republic Trench Coat (old, but similar here) // Madewell T-shirt (I have this tee in a million colors. Fits TTS – I’m wearing a small) // AG Distressed Jeans (old, but similar here for under $70) // Everlane Day Market Tote // Veja Sneakers (super comfortable and fit TTS)

Sometimes updating your wardrobe seasonally can feel overwhelming.  It’s nice to transition your outfits (and for me, actually wear something people can SEE rather than hiding under my giant winter coat) but it can also feel like you need to refresh everything in your closet.  What seasonal trends do you like? Or do you even care? For me, I always arm myself with a closet full of classic and versatile basics and then occasionally sprinkle in some trends.  Case in point – my trench coat that I’ve had for YEARS that I wear repeatedly and my white sneakers.  Year after year, they feel fresh and go with pretty much everything.  Here are 5 things I’m wearing this spring that are incredibly easy to mix and match for easy spring looks.

ONE // Trench Coat – My trench is from Banana Republic from years ago, but there are similar options from J.Crew (currently 30% off!), Everlane (less than $140) and a lady-like fit from Halogen for under $120. A classic trench truly goes with anything…  Jeans, pants, spring dresses, skirts. You could wear it belted over an old t-shirt and still look chic.

TWO // White Sneakers – This is a purchase you will not regret since a cute white sneak is both trendy AND classic.  Is that possible?!  I did a full post on white sneakers for spring here, but I can’t say enough about these Vejas.  I wore them for 3 days straight in California and had zero blisters, plus they look great with wide leg pants, skirts and denim.

THREE // Silk Blouse – I officially have this Everlane blouse in 3 colors… navy, black and stone. It lays sooo nicely (I wear a size 4 and it still has a little room) is the perfect weight to wear on its own in the spring or under a sweater in the winter.

FOUR // White Denim Skirt – The jean skirt made its way back into my wardrobe last summer for the first time since 2008 and this year I’m adding another to my collection, but in white.  It’s the perfect spring weekend outfit with a chambray shirt and sneakers or if you have a more casual office, wear it with a navy blazer and loafers for a preppy Blair Waldorf moment.

FIVE // Wide Leg Pants – Wide leg trousers (again, with white sneakers) are having a MO-MENT.  I’ve been wearing mine (an older pair from LOFT that I just pulled out from the back of my closet) in lieu of jeans with a little t-shirt half tucked and a jean jacket.  I love this high-rise pair from Banana Republic for under $100.
