AGOLDE vs. Madewell Denim Shorts

When I shared my white jeans review post there was a request for a similar review of my favorite jean shorts. It’s currently 86 degrees in Chicago, so yes, I’ve worn a lot of shorts on the weekend recently. Here’s my review of the two denim pairs I own and rotate frequently…

AGOLDE Parker Vintage Loose Fit Cutoff Shorts // $128 – MY FAVE!

Everlane Cotton Box Tee (wearing a small) // AGOLDE Cutoff Shorts (wearing a 27) // Veja Sneakers // Everlane Day Market Tote

Why I love them: Ok, the price point on these shorts made me avoid purchasing for years because, well, they are shorts and over $100 seems aggressive. But, I ordered to try them on and now I get it – WORTH IT! I am a convert. I ordered by usual jeans size (usual size 27 in Madewell, Rag & Bone, etc) and they fit perfectly from the moment I put them on. They are like a perfectly worn pair of jeans that hit in all the right places.

I love that they kind of flare away from your thighs and therefore make your legs look thinner. There’s nothing worse than skin tight denim shorts. They are just long enough (I’m 5’5) and definitely cover my bum appropriately and don’t ride up. They are technically high-rise, however I’d say more of a mid-rise.

Do they stretch? To clarify, they are not stretchy denim. They are a stiffer, vintage denim, however I will say after 2 wears they stretched out a bit. It’s like they just became more comfortable. But they didn’t stretch drastically at all and I would still recommend ordering your regular jeans size.

Madewell High-Rise Denim Shorts // $69.50 – RUNNER UP

All Saints T-Shirt (similar for $11!) // Madewell High-Rise Denim Shorts (wearing a 27) // Vans Slip on Sneakers

Why I love them: I’ve had these shorts for a few years and they are the first pair of jeans shorts I purchased after trying a bunch because they were flattering. They are a high-rise waist and hit at mid-thigh and I will sometimes roll up the bottom once to make a little cuff. They completely cover your bum and don’t ride up.

Do they stretch? Yes, these are more of a stretchy denim (I believe a 2% elastane) so they have more stretch and give than the stiffer AGOLDE jeans. They still completely keep their shape though and don’t get baggy anywhere.
