When I look back at my blog outfits from 10+ years ago, I’m amazed at the sheer quantity of clothing I owned. I wasn’t necessarily shopping for the highest quality pieces and I certainly wasn’t going to repeat an outfit. Whether it’s my age, society or just being more environmentally conscious, my quest for quantity is out. Quality is in.
I think my closet might be the most streamlined it’s ever been (other than shoes, perhaps…), but I don’t have any issues putting together chic outfits. I buy quality and pieces that I love, that will last and that fit perfectly. I repeat outfits, but not in a way that’s immediately noticeable because I’m wearing classics. Pieces I’ve had, or will have, in my wardrobe for years.
Call it a capsule wardrobe approach or just having fewer, better items. Below are some key pieces that have been in my closet for years.
Club Monaco Blazer // I remember deeply struggling with the price point of this blazer back in 2017 (I think it was around $300?) but it’s something I’ve worn COUNTLESS times and still get compliments on it. There’s nothing more flattering than a well-fitted blazer. (similar blazer here)
Frame Crossbody Bag // This little leather bag is perfect for both casual and dressier occasions and has replaced a bunch of cheap, little clutches that I had accumulated in years past. I love that it works as a crossbody or without the handle. I’ve had it for 3 years and it’s so much more timeless than an inexpensive one-season bag from Amazon. (new version of the Frame bag here)
Ferragamo Belt // Ah, a classic belt. Jeans and a t-shirt? Throw a belt on. Flowy dress? Belt it. This belt is reversible, so it’s kind of like getting two-in-one and it elevates any simple outfit.
Madewell Leather Jacket // I’ve had this jacket since 2016 and it never ages. Madewell still makes it and I remain convinced everyone needs a leather jacket in their wardrobe. 6 years later and I still wear it all the time.
Madewell Transport Tote // Another Madewell leather staple I’ve had since 2014. I swear it just gets better and more buttery through the years. Check on this older post detailing everything about the Madewell tote.
Gucci Mules // These shoes were a quality, closet staple purchase I got for myself last year and I can’t recommend them enough. They seriously go with everything and easily elevate any outfit. I care for them (hello shoe polish) and know they will be in my wardrobe for years and years to come.
I agree with your plan and try to do same … but Madewell? I guess better than Target but on par with gap and old navy.
These two leather pieces from Madewell have lasted me years and years! Doesn’t have to be designer to have long standing staples in your wardrobe if the quality is there. I personally feel like my Madewell leather jacket is still in-style and timeless and I got it back in 2016.
