We Moved!

The intention for the title of this post was “We’re Moving!”, but holy smokes time got away from me. Yes, we moved to Chicago! This was NOT something that was on our radar (I mean, we only got married a month and a half ago!), but Zak was presented with a great work opportunity and after plenty of longggg conversations, we decided to take the leap! It’s been a whirlwind. We made this decision and managed to find a place in Chicago and move our Ohio tushies over the course of a month. I can still hardly believe we are here. We are in the Gold Coast and settling into a new routine in our new city.

I’m very excited about our new journey and home together, but I would be lying if I said this move was easy. It certainly was not. Our movers were terrible for many reasons. They arrived hours late with ONE mover because the other movers didn’t show up (?!?) so it took over 4 hours to move our stuff. I was already on my way to the city to pick up our keys, but due to the delay with the movers Zak stayed in Columbus until the next day. Thank the sweet Lord I had a friend with me who booked us a hotel down the street to prevent a total mental breakdown.

Our first official night in our new place, surrounded by boxes, I had an anxiety attack. A complete overwhelming feeling took over me and Zak helped me work through it. #thankgodforhim But, each day as we’ve made small accomplishments, things have gotten better and better. I love our neighborhood. I love the new routine we are settling into. I love being able to walk everywhere.

Here’s what I keep reminding myself of in moments of stress – In order to achieve big things and accomplish your dreams, you must have the courage to step outside your comfort zone. The future can be better than the present and I have the power to make it so.

This past week, I’ve recognized I need to give myself credit for being freaking resilient. I am a RESILIENT person! I worked through the emotional and unexpected divorce of my parents at age 27. I sold our house in 12 hours when we moved from Cleveland to Columbus. I killed it in a new career in Columbus, got my yoga certification and started teaching. I found a new, solid network and group of wonderful friends. I planned my dream wedding. And now I moved across states with my husband, all while interviewing for new jobs in a new city. Women don’t give themselves enough credit for being resilient, strong humans, but I know recognize how badass I am. No apologies.

We could have stayed in our Ohio bubble and felt safe, but we chose to live a life filled with adventures and challenges and ups and downs. I’ve learned more about myself and what I can handle and achieve than I thought possible.

I’d love your thoughts – How do you feel about stepping outside your comfort zone?

As I get back into the blogging groove and start sharing some more Chicago content, I hope you’ll stick around for the journey! Thank you for your endless support and loyalty.
