We’re about 3 weeks into 2019 and it’s the time when those New Year’s resolutions start to fade. In all transparency, I didn’t make a firm list of resolutions this year, but I did set the intention to keep up my healthy fitness routine that I established in 2018. Thanks to California Almonds for partnering with me on this post!
A couple months ago, as soon as we moved to Chicago, I started working out first thing in the morning in order to get myself out of my warm bed and start the day energized. Now that I’m back at the office and commuting with an early train ride, I don’t always have time for that morning workout class but I still focus on doing something for my body before or after work, whether it’s yoga, a spin class, barre or just 20 minutes on the treadmill. It does take a bit more logistical energy, just making sure I’m packing the right workout gear and snacks to hold me over, but it’s definitely worth it to feel energized and keep up the motivation. Here are a few of my tips to stay motivated for your own resolutions…
ONE // Pack your workout clothes and snacks the night before
If I don’t have a bag with my yoga clothes, mat and a snack sitting by the door in the morning, I probably won’t make it to the gym after work because 1. I’m just not going to have time to pull together my gear in morning and 2. I’ll be starving by the time I’m walking to the gym so I’ll just say “forget it” and head home for dinner. (Yes, this has happened a few times when I wasn’t prepared). So, I usually always have my bag ready to go and fuel up with almonds at the office during my mid-afternoon snack craving or eat a handful on my train ride home.
TWO // Schedule your workouts alone or with friends
I usually look at the week ahead on Sunday and decide which days I can work out in the morning and which days I’ll work out after leaving the office. If I’m dropping into a spin class, I’ll reserve and pay for my spot ahead of time so I don’t back out at the last minute. Paying for it in advance gives me extra motivation to show up. I also love making plans to take a class with friends so we can hold each other accountable, especially on Saturday mornings when neither of us wants to get up.
THREE // Eat small snacks and meals throughout the day
Again, one of the big reasons for skipping a workout is my growling stomach. Whether it’s the morning and I need something before the gym, or I’m just hungry for dinner right after work, I’ve learned to stay satisfied throughout the day with easy snacks like almonds that I can pack on-the-go. I usually always keep some at my desk and in my gym bag. Almonds are great because they provide sustained energy perfect for a workout and they are a great source of fiber and protein and contain good fats.
Did you know that there isn’t an almond emoji? I recently learned that almonds don’t have their own, which needs to change! Join me in signing the petition here to help get an Almond Emoji.

Enjoyed your post about almonds!! Starting my day with a handful of almonds with my coffee really does seem to give me a great boost!!
Thankful to have a workout buddy to hold me accountable ! Almonds save me at multiple points during the day – justifying the need for an emoji! Petition signed!
