I think many of us are in the same boat right now with how we’re feeling. Angry, sad, numb, frustrated, heartbroken. And no matter what words I type, they aren’t good enough. But, saying something right now feels better than staying silent. It’s so upsetting and unacceptable to realize the everyday struggles of Black men and women, plus the countless people who have been killed simply for being Black. Clearly, I have a lot to learn on how to be a better and stronger ally and friend.
I have VERY heavy emotions right now regarding the riots and looting throughout Chicago. I support and am proud of those who stood up to peacefully support and vocalize their voice, yet I’m mourning the damaged historic buildings and countless storefronts and small businesses that have been destroyed after recently enduring SO much due to COVID.
In the spirit of sharing something rather than nothing, here are the organizations I have donated to and started following this weekend in order to support and learn more. If you are in a position to donate right now, all of these organizations (plus countless more) would appreciate your support. Sending out positivity, love and kindness to you all.
My Block My Hood My City // Small business relief fund going directly towards the repair of small businesses in Black communities throughout Chicago.
Campaign Zero // Research-based policy solutions to end police brutality in America.
Black Lives Matter // Global Network to bring justice, healing and freedom to Black people.
I Grow Chicago // Working to grow the city of Englewood from simply surviving to thriving through community connection and investments.
NAACP Legal Defense Fund // America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice.
Chicago Community Bond Fund // Supports individuals whose communities cannot afford to pays bonds themselves and have been impacted by structural violence.
Love this and you! Thanks for sharing 🙂
