How I’ve Kept My Hair Healthy & Fresh While At Home

Morroccan Oil Hair Treatment

I saw a couple friends last weekend (at a distance) and they asked if I had been getting undercover hair treatments or secret color touch-ups while sheltering in place because my hair looked so nice. (Thanks ladies, you really filled up my self-esteem bucket!) Anyway, the answer is no, BUT I would agree my hair is looking and feeling quite healthy lately!

I got a trim and color touch up the first week of March, so right before salons shut down. I’m going on 3 months since my last salon treatment. I’d attribute much of my healthy hair growth and strength to daily collagen, (my nails and hair are definitely longer now than usual!), but also because I have let my hair air dry nearly every day. Limited hot tools really help keep my ends healthy and prevents breakage.

My hair is naturally very straight and fine, but I have a lot of it. (Does that make sense?) Since my hair texture is fine, I have been washing my hair nearly everyday during quarantine. I know, I know. This may be controversial because so many bloggers are all about touting scalp training (and washing infrequently) while we are stuck at home. Training your hair to not have to wash it. But, since I’ve been trying to work out everyday I just HATE heaving sweaty hair. I simply feel gross if I don’t wash it and have a hot, sweaty head.

I’ve been trying to preserve my hair color when washing, so I’ve been rotating between Oribe (great for color protection, but more expensive) and Kristin Ess The One shampoo from Target. Then I use Coconut Miracle Oil Conditioner just on my ends and come through it with my fingers while I’m in the shower.

Then I lightly towel dry my hair and comb it out with a wide tooth comb. Now, here’s my #1 Tip for healthy hair right now – I put Moroccan Hair Oil on the bottom of my hair everyday while it’s still damp. I SWEAR adding that little dab of oil keeps my hair healthy, smooth, hydrated and super shiny!

I twist my hair in a little French knot on the top of my head and let it air dry about half way. Then I just spray a bit of Bumble & Bumble Thickening Spray at my roots, give my head a toss and just blow dry my roots to give them a lift and boost at my crown. And that’s it! I let the ends air dry which has prevented any split ends. That’s it! Until my next appointment which may not be until July, I’ll keep my strands healthy with daily collagen and Moroccan hair oil.

Have you changed your hair routine at all during quarantine?
