Morning Collagen Latte Recipe

Quarantine has definitely broadened all our skill sets, am I right? I’m now my own nail tech, facialist, fitness trainer, dog groomer and most importantly, barista. Although I do miss popping into the corner coffee shop for a mocha or cold brew, I’ve gotten quite good at (and addicted to) making my own ‘fancy’ coffee and it accounts for approximately 90% of my motivation to get out of bed in the morning.

I shared my collagen smoothie recipe a few weeks ago (so tasty and filling!) and wanted to share a step-by-step for how I create my frothy morning brew at home…

ONE // Brew – We have a Delonghi dual coffee machine and I have it set up auto brew almost every morning. The scent of coffee wafting into my bedroom kind of serves as my morning alarm. You can create a latte with espresso or a pour over Chemex (I’ve tried both), but I typically just use a dark drip brew. Intelligentsia is my personal favorite at the moment.

TWO // Warm Oat Milk – You can use any milk or creamer, but dairy irritates my stomach and I’ve found that Oatly is the ONLY non-dairy milk that will still get fluffy and foamy when you whip it. (Seriously, no froth occurs when I’ve tried with an almond milk… But Oatly? Foam galore! It’s the best!) You can do this on the stovetop or in the microwave, but I will warm about ¾ cup of Oatly in my glass Pyrex and add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg. I’ll heat it just until it’s warm, not pipping hot.

THREE // Add Collagen & Foam It Up – Once the milk is warm, I add one scoop of Vital Proteins Collagen to the Pyrex and then use my $15 Bodem frother to transform the oat milk into frothy goodness. It’s lightweight and it’s so easy to use, just like a tiny, magical immersion blender!

FOUR // Combine & Enjoy – Finally, I add my brewed coffee into my favorite mug and pour the frothed collagen oatmilk on top. As you add the milk, it should still stay nice and foamy while you sip. I’ll usually add another sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder right on top for that fancy professional barista touch.

Ta-da! It’s so easy and really elevates my morning routine as I power up my laptop and can sip my latte for a while. Also, the benefits of collagen to my nails, hair and joints is an extra perk as well!
