My Morning Smoothie Recipe + Benefits of Collagen

Last week on Instagram I shared my morning coffee ritual (a reason to get out of bed early these days) and received some questions about why I add collagen to my foamed oatmilk. I’ve been a Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides fan for years – adding it to my smoothies and coffee.

As we get older our bodies produce less collagen… womp womp. So that’s why you see so many moisturizers, facials, shampoos, etc with collagen claims. We need collagen for our skin, muscles and tendons, especially as we age. Honestly I started using collagen for thicker hair and stronger nails, and it works! My nails grow at a rapid pace and my hair growth certainly speeds up. Please note – Collagen doesn’t discriminate which hair on your body grows, if you catch my drift. So yes, the hair on my head gets longer and thicker, but so does my leg hair… Gross. Just being transparent.

Then I found my joints felt so much better after a rigorous work out from collagen as well! Collagen keeps your cartilage healthy, which is why I have less joint pain. Other benefits include reducing inflammation and boosting immunity. Endless reasons to give collagen peptides a try!

Since I’ve been working from home, I’ve had more time to tinker with my morning smoothie recipe. Here’s my latest combo that keeps me full until lunch.

2 Scoops Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides

½ Frozen Banana

¾ Cup Frozen Blueberries

1 TBSP Almond Butter (or peanut butter works just as well!)

¼ Avocado

¾ Cup Oat Milk

1 Cup Ice

Blend and enjoy!
