My 5 Minute Make-Up Routine

The cold and snow has officially hit Chicago and this is the time of year when my skin usually gets super dry/confused/breaks out. The swing in temps and blasting heat indoors leaves my face dried out and in need of some exfoliation. So, I wanted to share my current skincare and beauty morning routine that takes less than 10 minutes. Plus, it seems like skincare and makeup rarely go on sale, so I’m sharing a few beauty sales happening today!

psst: Cyber Week sales are still going strong! Read my round up posts here and here in case you missed anything!

So, my morning skincare routine. As I mentioned in this post, I have been using the Mario Badescu Acne Facial Cleanser to help prevent any breakouts and if I need to exfoliate I typically turn to Kiehl’s Skin Brightening Exfoliator, which is gentle but effective for sloughing off dead skin. Then I use the Beautycounter Adaptive Moisture Lotion to hydrate since it adjusts to your skins hydration needs. Then my last quick step is the Rejuvenating Eye Cream. Beautycounter is currently offering 15% off sitewide for Cyber Monday and free shipping on all orders over $50, so it’s a GREAT time to try this clean beauty brand!

For my weekday make-up routine, I keep it pretty quick and simple. I love playing with make-up and taking more time on the weekends for a fun look, but on weekdays I generally stick to the same routine.

I start with a Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation (I use ‘Sand’ as my shade). It is a nice, medium coverage and goes on super smooth. I add a couple dabs of Smashbox Studio Skin 24 Hour Waterproof Concealer under my eyes (my color is light/medium) to cover any dark circles. Then I add a dusting of Microfinishing loose powder to set it.

I fill and shape my brows with the Color Define Brow Pencil (medium shade) and keep strays in place with Glossier Brow Boy. Someone once told me that good brows are like a push up bra for your face – they lift everything up! It cracked me up but it’s sooo true. Good brows make you look pulled together and ‘lifted’ even if you don’t have any other make-up on.

I add a small amount of bronzer for contouring with Benefit’s Hoola, which I’ve used for years. I love that it’s matte and doesn’t have any shimmer or sparkles. I also use this brush for applying bronzer. A little goes a long way, people! Then I’ll add a touch of Urban Decay Highlighter (I use ‘Sin’) at the top of my cheekbones.

For quick eye make-up I usually swipe on the Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow across my lids and follow with mascara. BUT I just ordered this Beautycounter Velvet Eyeshadow Palette and can’t wait to try it! I love all the neutral shades for blending (perfect for ALL skintones!) or adding a touch of sparkle for holiday parties.

I still stick with my drugstore Maybelline Falsies brand for my mascara of choice. I’ve used it for approximately one million years and still love it. I will start with a swipe of the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara and follow with Maybelline. Since I’ve started using Lash Boost, mascara is really all I need. I used to wear eyeliner everyday, but my lashes are that hella flirty length (I’ve decided that’s a thing) and adding mascara is enough. I buy it from my girl Kylie and a tube lasts me 3-4 months.

And finally for lips, I love loveeee the texture and color of the Beautycounter Sheer Lipstick in Lily. It’s the perfect light sheen of color to add a little pop to the final look. Whew, when I write it all down it sounds like a lot, but it really only takes me 5-10 minutes each morning and my swaps towards more natural beauty products has really helped clear up my complexion.

If you’re shopping for Cyber Week beauty deals, there are some good sets at Nordstrom like this Kiehl’s set for under $40. You can also snag my leather dopp kit for 50% off and a great Oribe hair set for $75. And my curling iron is currently 25% off, so you can get those perfect beachy waves!
