In May I published a post about working from home for only 31 more days, but HA! That’s just not a reality anymore, is it? My working from home situation is definitely remaining through September, if not longer. And I’m so grateful I have the ability and flexibility to work from home right now. But, it does take a level of diligence and dedication to not feel like everyday is a mushy middle space of work day versus weekend. Especially if you’re in a one-bedroom apartment like us.
I love sleep. Love it. I’m not a leap out of bed type of girl, more like a rub my eyes and roll over and reach for my phone and lay there because I’m cozy and warm type of person. However, I’ve recognized I needed a strict morning schedule to get myself up and going while working remotely. Here are my tips and morning routine to transform into more of a morning person…
ONE // Keep a schedule – I go to bed every night within the same 30-minute time-frame and set an alarm for the same time every morning. Even though I don’t have a commute right now, my alarm still goes off at 6:45am every day. Consistency is key to train your internal clock.
TWO // Don’t reach for your phone – My first inclination when I wake up is to reach for my phone and check my email. The worst habit. So now I’ve started keeping my phone out of reach so I physically have to get up and out of bed. And I try to stay off my phone for at least the first 30 minutes after waking up.
THREE // Treat yo self – I mentioned this in my collagen latte recipe post, but smelling coffee brewing in the morning and knowing I have a yummy latte or collagen smoothie to make and look forward to is about 50% of my motivation for getting out of bed. Knowing I have a tasty morning caffeinated beverage ahead of me is motivation enough to head into the kitchen.
FOUR // Let the light in – We are fortunate to have a sunlight flooded apartment in the morning which helps SO much to get me energized. Also taking Potsie outside and getting some fresh air and sunlight is a quick trick to perk up.
FIVE // Get moving – I feel SO lucky to have our Peloton bike these days and I’ve stayed diligent to get on the bike in the morning, even if it’s just for a 15 minute ride to simply wake up and get a little sweaty. It’s not a full workout, but just 15 or 20 minutes of movement helps to turn on my body and mind. Try a 15 minute stretch or quick yoga flow!
SIX // Eat Breakfast – One of the benefits of working from home is having the ability to make a healthy breakfast like scrambled eggs or a smoothie, something I wouldn’t have time to do if I was catching the train. Looking forward to a nutritious breakfast at home is just another little motivation to get me excited about mornings and help me wake up.
