Tomorrow is the last day of 2020 and I’m happy to say peace out! I completely recognize that all our issues won’t disappear at the flip of the calendar and there is still so much work ahead, but it does feel good to have a bit of a fresh start and say goodbye to this dumpster fire of a year. A refreshed attitude, energy and positive dreams for the year ahead. As someone who’s happiness is often tied to accomplishments (Enneagram 3 wing 2, here!) I’m struggling to reflect back on this year. Did I really do anything besides work from my kitchen counter every.single.day, watch too much TV and Peloton away my stress? The truth is yes, I did, it’s just hard to see it. I was mentally resilient. I got involved with social and political causes. I worked really hard. I grew this blog. I got into running. I read a ton of books. I became absurdly good at painting my own nails. I made delicious lattes at home. I baked and baked and baked and baked…
I learned that the only person I can control in this crazy situation is myself and my own attitude. Even when my blood pressure went up seeing people on social media traveling, not wearing a mask, gathering in large groups, I found that the only actions I can control are my own. And I did my best to make the right ones and be a smart and responsible human during this wild year.
2020 weighed on me. It weighed on all of us. I’m looking forward to a new year and the positive things to come in 2021. If 2020 has taught us anything (ok, it taught us SO MANY THINGS) it’s to never take little things for granted anymore. I swear I’ll never take going out to dinner with friends and NOT wearing sweatpants for granted. I’ll never take a quick flight for granted. Never take a hug for granted. Because even when life is reallllly hard, we only get to do it once.
Wishing you a healthy, happy 2021 filled with kindness for others and gratitude for what you have! I appreciate you all and this small community in this corner of the internet.
Thank you for making these my top posts of 2020…
